Priyanka Chopra is not playing boxing champion

Indian boxing champion MC Mary Kom won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

The country was proud of her and Bollywood hailed her. The Indian film industry did not waste time and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced that he is producing a biopic on the boxing champion.

Omung Kumar (a well-known art director), will be making his debut as a film director. For a while now, there’s been speculation about who will play the 29-year-old boxer.

Although the makers remain tightlipped, there were reports that Priyanka Chopra might be the frontrunner for the coveted part. Trade sources say that Katrina Kaif’s name is also in the reckoning.

Chopra denies doing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Mary Kom biopic – emirates247 Staff
But Priyanka Chopra squashed all such rumours and said that she has no idea about the movie or her role.

But we guess it’s the case of ‘once bitten twice shy’ for PC. She had the taste of such false publicity before with Dhrama production and her relationship soured with filmmaker Karan Johar.

She took on social networking site Twitter and wrote, “I’ve never had any discussions for the part of Mary Kom..As much as it wud be a great part for any actress to play its speculation for now.”

Right now Priyanka is in Los Angeles busy promoting her debut music album.

So obviously Priyanka wanted to come clean on this present speculation to avoid any fall-out with ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Her last release ‘Barfi!’ aserted her credibility as an actress who can deliver the goods when presented with a role challenging enough.

This is probably why media circulated her name as a contender to portray Mary Kom.
After working with KJo in ‘Agneepath’ there were rumours that Priyanka was signed for other projects with him. But that was not the case. Priyanka did not clear the air then and it was assumed that PC planted such false stories in the media. This along with other reasons turned things ugly between Priyanka and Karan.

Renowned Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, who is behind internationally acclaimed films like “Red Sorghum,” “Ju Dou” and “House of Flying Daggers,” feels Indian cinema has broken the stereotype of dancing and singing by venturing into other genres as well.

“There have been lot of changes in the Indian movie industry. I would love to get to know more about the films here,” Zhang told PTI Oct. 20.

“For India it is singing and dancing in movies, while for China it is martial arts and kung fu. Both Asian countries have a lot of things in common. We see lot of potential for collaboration,” he said.

Bollywood inspiration for better ties with India: Canadian PM

GURGAON, NOV 7:  Drawing a parallel between Indo-Canadian ties and Bollywood romances, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper today said both the countries need to overcome obstacles quickly, as hero and heroine do, for building a stronger relationship.

“I believe there is a kind of a parallel to Canada and India and the typical Bollywood ploy. Two young people meet, they know they are meant for each other, but they have obstacles to over come,” Harper said at the World Economic Forum on India meeting here.

A self confessed Bollywood fan, he added: “They do, in fact, overcome those obstacles and the happy ending ensures and they do so before the viewers loose interest.”

Stressing the need for Canada and India to take a cue from such happy endings, Harper said: “It’s a bit like how I see the relationship between Canada and India. We have to work hard to overcome the obstacles and we have to work quickly, if we are to get to the happy ending that we both want. It won’t be easy but can be done. So lets get it done quickly.”

While the two countries have completed a social security agreement, they are still engaged in extensive negotiations for a free trade pact and investment protection agreement.

Pointing out that the reforms taken up by New Delhi are increasingly expanding the country’s economy, Harper said Canada attached great importance to relationship with India, but the two countries are yet to fully exploit the potential.

“The untapped economic potential between us is massive and undeniable. But massive and undeniable as that potential is, it will not develop itself. It will take consorted effort on both of the countries,” said Harper, who also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his India visit.

The Canadian Prime Minister said the two countries are targeting $15 billion in bilateral trade by 2015. The current merchandise trade is about $5 billion.

He also said that there are already over 500 Canadian companies in India and another 100 have plans to enter the country.

Harper further said the two countries could have a great partnership as Canada needs emerging economies and India needs partnership with developed countries.

Kareena shoots for the item number – Fevicol – TOI

Barely a month since her wedding and Kareena Kapoor is already busy shooting. And the first assignment she has taken up post marriage is the much publicised item song in Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 – Fevicol

Bebo along with the crew had been busy shooting the dance number that promises to be more ‘entertaining’ than Munni in Dabangg for the last two days in Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios when Mirror lensman Raju Shelar managed to get a sneak preview of the actress on the sets.

In the studio premises, we spotted the actress sporting a nose ring and a 70’s style bouffant. On investigating further, we learnt that the song will have a very ‘Lucknowi’ flavour to it. A source told Mirror, “The sets for the song has been inspired by the ‘gallis of Lucknow’.

The dancers are also dressed accordingly. Manish Malhotra, who designed Bebo’s wardrobe for the song flew down to Lucknow specially to acquire elements for the dress.”

Though the picture, taken in between the shots shows the actress sporting a oversized shirt, in the song, Bebo will sport a black lungi similar to the one her sister Karisma wore in the 90s’ chartbuster Sarkailiyo Khatiya. “Manish has taken special care in the detailing of Bebo’s attire,” added the source.

According to sources, the song has a very rustic look and feel. We also learnt that Bebo would complete the dance number before leaving for her honeymoon. Now that’s what we call dedication.

Madhubala—– She was one of the most beautiful actresses in Bollywood.  She was one of the most sought-after actresses in India. She played her role larger than life. But this beautiful actress died at the age of 36.  The Anarkali of Indian Cinema was born with a complex heart condition, which was difficult to be treated in those days.  She  eventually succumbed to her illness at the age of 36 in the year 1969 leaving a void in the Indian celluloid industry forever.  The sad part was that she was surrounded by a number of people when she was a big name, but during her last days when she was bedridden, she had no one besides her and she died a lonely death.

Meena Kumari —- The tragedy queen of Indian cinema left us at the age of 39 in the year 1972 due to cirrhosis of liver caused due to heavy alcohol consumption.  Her classic contributions include Parineeta, Baiju Bawra, Saheb Biwi aur Ghulam and Pakeezah.  She was also a poetess in Urdu and has written beautiful sad poems in her lonely days. The saddest part was when she died, her superhit film Pakeezah was still running in all the theatres. She didn’t even get a chance to see how much people loved her and appreciated her performance in the film.

Guru Dutt—-  The legendary actor and director Guru Dutt , who made classics such as Pyaasa , Kaagaz Ke Phool , Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam , and Chaudhvin Ka Chand, was head over heels in love with actress Waheeda Rehman .  He died at the age of 42 due to overdose of sleeping pills, caused by depression.  He had tried to commit suicide twice before but somehow survived after he was rushed to the hospital. But unfortunately the third time it was his bad luck.

Parveeb Babi—– She is most remembered for her glamorous roles alongside top heroes of the 1970s and early 1980s.  She was known for her portrayal of iconoclastic women who did not care about conventional norms of  Indian society. This glamorous actress met a  sad death. She died at the age of 55 on January 20, 2005 in her Juhu residence.  As she lived alone, nobody got a hint of what was in store for her. Her door was locked from inside, so the police had to break open the door and that’s when they found her body three days after her death.  It’s still unclear if it was a natural death or a suicide case. Parveen Babi had deeply fallen in love with a superstar, but after her failed love, it was reported that she took to drugs and alcohol.

Divya Bharati———- Divya Bharti became the heartthrob of millions  during the Eighties and was poised to become the queen of Bollywood before cruel destiny took her away.   Divya, a 19 year old actress, fell five stories from her apartment in Mumbai. There was a police probe into her sudden death which remains a mystery till date. Did somebody push her from the window, or did she jump on her own? Her death created a storm in the  media and the entire megapolis of Mumbai  was speculating whether it was an accident, murder or suicide? However, the inquiry into Divya’s death was closed in 1998  as there was no conclusive evidence.  Her three-year-long career was full of ups and downs. Divya Bharti was the first actress who acted opposite Shah Rukh Khan   She was married to Sajid Nadiadwala in secret, due to family problems.

Smita Patil——- It was a great loss for Bollywood, the day Smita Patil passed away.  She died at a young age of 31 due to post-surgery complications after giving birth to her child. Smita played strong woman-oriented roles in films like Bhumika, Umbartha,Bazaar and Mirch Masala. Smita Patil married Raj Babbar who was previously married to Nadira Babbar. This outstanding dusky and beautiful actress passed away giving birth to her youngest son Pratiek Babbar, who was seen in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na as Genelia’s younger brother.

Nargis was a member of Rajya Sabha. After her death, her husband Sunil Dutt devoted his entire life to assist cancer patients.

Sanjeev Kumar——– He was undoubtedly one of the best actors Indian cinema had seen,  Sanjeev Kumar was loved  by his fans, whether he played the hero, a comedian or a grey-haired character actor.    This actor, has played mind blowing roles in Pati Patni Aur Woh, Silsila, Aandhi, Mausam, Shikar, and a lot more. Sanjeev Kumar was a versatile actor who fitted real well in all the characters ; be it a comedian, a hero, or an elderly character. His death at the age of 47 was greeted with exclamations of shock and grief from the film industry as well as the movie-going public.

Superstar couple Saif and Kareena proved they aren’t all work and no play by gracing the Prithvi festival and interacting with relatives. “I am really proud to be a part of a family that is so creative. Whether its films, whether its theatre, whether it’s dance I just feel proud today to be a Kapoor,” said Kareena Kapoor.

“It was an amazing experience and I was actually very happy to be here. I remember Shashi uncle being so proud of Prithvi Theatre,” said Saif Ali Khan.

South of Mumbai, there was more khandan camaraderie on display at the Tehelka ThinkFest in Goa, where Ranbir Kapoor stole the show from father Rishi and cousin Karisma.

Ranbir Kapoor revealed that when his report card came he used to cry along with his friend at the thought of showing it to his parents. Ranbir said, ” My friend then hit me and asked me what I was crying for, you don’t have to become a doctor like me. That’s when it struck me that maybe I don’t need to study that hard to become an actor.”

Ranbir also likened the different generations of Kapoors to the Apple iPhone and said, “It’s just that the new generation is slimmer.”

Sonakshi Sinha flounces down runway in Mumbai

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha recently walked the ramp at a fashion show here. Sinha sizzled on the catwalk for designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock. Sinha flounced down the runway with poise and said it was a great opportunity for her to be the show stopper for such eminent designers.

“I got the opportunity to walk for Falguni and Shane Peacock. This is a good outfit, in which I am feeling confident and looking good and presenting to the audience. So, this was a good opportunity for any actress,” said Sinha.

Explaining about the design and style of Sinha”s dress, designer Falguni said the outfit was made with feathers, beads and silver cut-outs to make the dress look different from a usual black gown.

“Its got a lot of feathers, its got a lot of acrylic and lot of detail of embroidery and bugle beads and it has got silver cut-outs in side, so this makes it look more interesting rather than just a black dress,” said Falguni.

After Katrina, will Salman Khan take over her sister Isabella career – emirates247

Considering he has played godfather to Katrina, it’s only natural that he’d step in for gen-next

Katrina Kaif attends the award show with her little sister Isabella

He’s known as the man with the Midas touch, miraculously altering the fate of any actor from doom to super-stardom.

From his “ex-lover” Katrina Kaif to little-known South Indian star Asin, Salman Khan has been instrumental in taking newcomers under his wing and transforming them into big stars.

And, now with Katrina’s kid sister Isabelle gearing up for the spotlight, opposite veteran Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan for a crossover project, we are certain that Salman is gearing to play godfather.

Considering he did it for her big sister, he’d do it again for Isabelle.

When Katrina and Salman had parted ways, industry insiders had speculated that Katrina would step in as producer and use her Bollywood clout to help her sister.

There were even talks of a big budgeted movie directed by Ayan Mukerjee, but now that she has reconnected with Salman post ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, it does appear that he will play a crucial role in Isabelle’s Bollywood career.

With the movie industry not favourable to newcomers, Katrina will surely ensure that Isabelle gets the “Khan” backing that she had once enjoyed.

Initially there were reports of Isabelle kick-starting her career by being a part of the Indian reality show ‘Big Boss4’, but that never materialized with industry insiders claiming Salman was reluctant to put her through the grueling test.

Apart from an international degree in acting, Isabelle has also had her share of ill-fortune in B-town, with an MMS scandal surrounding her. It was, however, cleared after big sister stepped in to prove the video was fabricated.

Controversy isn’t new to the Kaif household, with Katrina’s debut in the raunchy ‘Boom’ being rebuked by critics and the audience. She was even shunted to do obscure South Indian movies.

It was only until Salman stepped into her life, and movies with David Dhawan’s  ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ in 2005, that Katrina started making giant leaps in her career.

From then on, she has made the right movie choices with back-to-back box-office hits, pitching her in the top league today. “Had it not been for Salman Khan, she would not have made it in Bollywood,” reveals a source.

“It’s evident that the tag of being Salman Khan’s girlfriend helped her in bagging films of top directors.”

Although his influence is evident, Salman has never taken credit for it. “Katrina is what she is because of her hard work and I don’t feel I have contributed to her success,” he had told the Indian media.

From dictating what dress to wear, to what movies to sign, Salman still controls her movie choices. “I don’t want her to start doing heroine-oriented roles just yet. No point doing it just for the sake of it,” he insists, during a media interview.

“She is making the right choices now. She can take on heroine-oriented roles later in her career, when the roles have some meaning,” he adds.

Looking at how Salman has converted Katrina into an overnight success, it’s evident that Isabelle will only stand to benefit from this legendary ‘Khan’ connection. http://goo.gl/UGYYU
